I have written my own notes as an outline, but my notes are not the same as other, more experienced students. The reason is that they aren't designed for me and my needs. Here are a few tips to help you start writing your own outline.
The first tip is to start out with a pre-assigned outline. I always start by reading the other student's outline and then constructing my own. The advantage of doing this is that you will know what questions you have to ask and you will have the information you need to know for the beginning of the debate. This is an excellent practice in the first week of class. When writing your outline, try to pick topics that you are interested in. If you're not so sure about what you're going to say, do some research on the topic, you'll be surprised how much you get done by searching the Internet. Another tip is to pick a topic that has a fascinating or interesting topic. It doesn't have to be the most important thing, but you should choose a topic that is worthy of your attention. For example, if you are writing an outline for a humanities essay, you may want to write a history-based essay instead of a science-based one. The most important part of writing your outline is to keep it as simple as possible. It's best to read your outline out loud, make any modifications you think are necessary, and then start with the first paragraph. Make sure you take all your time and really think about what you want to say. There is nothing worse than coming up with a great idea and then realizing that it doesn't fit the outline you came up with. Finally, always allow yourself enough time to work on your outline. At first, it's going to be a lot easier to create your outline and work on it. But don't expect to write your outline in one night or even a day. Writing a good outline for your debate essay is as important as writing the actual essay. Don't get frustrated and just write whatever comes to mind. Use your outline as a template and follow the outline exactly as written, making sure that all your points are in there.
